El Ensueño (The Illusion, The Dream)
We once walked this path together in the timeless spaces of the heart. Long before we were trained to see each other as strangers and enemies, we knew each other as friends. Misguided by the reckless words of others, we have learned to mistrust, disregard and hate each other and from this chaos we create religions, ideologies, and belief systems. Structures of thought used to separate and divide that which was once whole. We have been programmed to classify our brothers, our sisters, and our selves into fragmented images, never truly seeing each other except through the veil of memory.
When we meet, we see a façade of old beliefs and thoughts and we hold on to these things as if they were actual and real. We have been doing this for thousands of years, placing value onto a "self" that is born of illusion, degrading one another into mere projections of the past and forsaking the recognition of the Essence, the Sacred. For so long we have been neglecting the only thing that matters.
Like prisoners, we are locked into a cell, "a self," created by thought and conditioning and although our hearts seek a life of unity and true purpose we continue a superficial reality filled with suffering, conflict and disorder. Most of us are so deeply entrenched in this state of deception that it takes something truly unsettling to break us from this illusion, such as a near-death experience, a drastic and sudden change in our daily life or?the worse case scenario?a shaman.
The function of the shaman is to disturb, agitate and counter the false personality and this encounter with the shaman is never easy to undertake, for he or she will be relentless. The reward for embarking on such a demanding and painful process is the possibility for something real to emerge in you. Yet none of this is necessary; with enough self discipline, attention and presence you can on your own begin to systematically chip away at the lie your thoughts created. However, this is an extremely difficult task and requires the qualities of a true warrior. One must be completely unrelenting and resolute in intent to see with real insight, through inquiry, the truth of our reality.
Observe yourself, your habits, your tendencies, how you react to certain situations and people and record it. Be your own teacher and student. Become the scientist and the object of investigation. You will begin to see for yourself that the personality you call "I" is merely an image and that you have been living as a product of thought. When you can see this, truly see it without doubt, you have taken your first step toward liberation.
